Our customer faced the challenge that their existing product solution no longer met their growing and evolving needs. The IT department was burdened by high costs for licenses, support, and time-consuming product upgrades with an exorbitant price tag but without any functional benefits. The users in the organization faced challenges with a very cumbersome application, which was also difficult to further develop.
There had been previous attempts to configure and adapt a standard product. However, with a great need for flexibility, several integrations with existing systems and external parties, as well as business-specific requirements that they were reluctant to compromise on – that path increasingly appeared as a dead end.
At the same time, the customer's primary focus was to continue delivering in their business with high quality to their customers, which made a traditional procurement and implementation of yet another standard product risky and difficult to justify.
Solution tailored to the customer's needs
To avoid getting stuck in yet another costly product customization and a large product's fixed roadmap with future mandatory upgrades, the customer chose to develop their own application together with Arkido. As a supplier, we also took on an active role as product owner and drove the development of IT systems and the business forward in harmony with the customer.
In a modern and scalable tech stack, we created a flexible and extensible architecture with clear interfaces between different components. Through an iterative and incremental development method, combined with automated processes for build, test, and deployment, we were able to deliver multiple releases per week. This enabled a smooth and gradual introduction of the new system without disruptions to operations.
Together with the customer, we used tools and methods adapted for remote work in agile teams, which helped us create a personal and pleasant work environment.
Results and value creation
Our way of working made it possible to develop new IT support while the organization gradually changed and streamlined its work routines. This gave the business time to adapt successively, and we avoided creating unnecessary stress and high workload for staff and their customers.
The new solution has no license cost and a significantly lower support cost, which in the long run outweighs the initial development cost and in this case results in a lower total lifecycle cost, compared to a standard product.
